Although full palatal acrylic coverage provides the greatest amount of support, it can affect a patient’s speech and, on occasion, trigger a gag response. To eliminate these negative effects, the palatal coverage can be cleared away from the soft palate. If you suspect that the patient may have a problem, ask the laboratory to horseshoe the palate.
