Cuspid Retraction springs provide a positive force to tip a mesially inclined cuspid distally. The most effective design uses a coil that should be opened during activation. However, in cases with a shallow sulcus, the inverted coil design can be used to protect the tissue from irritation. In situations where the mesial aspect of the cuspid is not well exposed, the use of a bonded button or bracket will provide a positive contact point for the spring.
